What is a CHROME Federal Credit Union Associate Board Member, you might ask? The Associate Board serves as a body of advisors and ambassadors for the credit union. Members provide guidance and support to the board of directors to help achieve CHROME’s mission of improving the financial well-being of its members.

As an Associate Board Member, you will have the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and financial experts, gain leadership skills and valuable experience in the industry, and give back to your community in a meaningful way. Beyond the personal benefits, CHROME Associate Board Members play a vital role in shaping the future of the credit union, helping to ensure that CHROME is best serving its 14,600 members and staying ahead of industry trends.

Additionally, serving as an Associate Board Member presents opportunities for community outreach, including volunteering at local events or attending conferences and industry events helping to increase awareness and access to CHROME, as a trusted financial institution in our community.

So, what does it take to become an Associate Board Member for CHROME?

Ideally, candidates will have experience in business-related fields, as well as an interest in serving and bettering their community. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as a willingness to learn and a desire to make a difference.

To be appointed as an Associate Board Member (and to continue serving), an individual must:

  • Be a CHROME FCU member in good standing.
  • Display an interest in the mission of CHROME and participate in company-related activities.
  • Represent CHROME in a positive light.
  • Be willing and able to devote the time and effort it takes to serve as an Associate on various committees (as appointed by the Chair) and in various educational programs.
  • Demonstrate that they are a team player who exercises sound judgment.
  • Be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.
  • Attend an orientation program within 60 days of appointment. 
  • Attend and participate in a minimum of six Board meetings a year. 
    • However, Associate Board Members will have no voting powers and may not attend Executive Sessions of the Board.
  • Accept committee assignments and work on important projects.
  • Be an active member of the Supervisory Committee.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individual members’ records and other information.
  • Attend appropriate workshops, seminars, and other training opportunities as designated by the Chair, and provide feedback to the Board.  CHROME FCU will bear the cost of these training opportunities.
There is no guarantee that Associate Board Members will eventually become regular Board Directors; however, it will give you the opportunity to better understand the role of a Board Member, with an eye toward eventually becoming a candidate for a board seat.
